Balsam Fir Tree Tea, Syrup, Oil, and Salve Recipes

Here are a few balsam fir recipes that make use of its needles and resin for teas, syrups, and salves.

1. Balsam Fir Tea (Vitamin C-Rich & Soothing)

Ingredients:

* 1 tbsp fresh or dried balsam fir needles (chopped)

* 2 cups hot water

* Honey or lemon (optional)

Instructions:

1. Bring water to a boil and let it cool slightly.

2. Pour over the balsam fir needles and let steep for 10–15 minutes.

3. Strain and enjoy with honey or lemon if desired.

Benefits: Supports the immune system and helps with congestion.

2. Balsam Fir Syrup (For Cough & Respiratory Health)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh balsam fir needles
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 cup honey (or maple syrup)

Instructions:

1. Simmer balsam fir needles in water for 20 – 30 minutes.

2. Strain out the needles and return the liquid to the pot.

3. Add honey and stir over low heat until dissolved.

4. Store in a glass jar in the fridge for up to a month.

Usage: Take 1 tsp as needed for coughs or mix with tea.

3. Balsam Fir Infused Oil (For Skin & Massage)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup fresh balsam fir needles
  • 1 cup carrier oil (olive, coconut, or jojoba)

Instructions:

1. Place needles in a glass jar and cover with oil.

2. Let infuse in a warm spot for 2 – 4 weeks, shaking occasionally.

3. Strain and store in a dark glass bottle.

Uses: Apply to sore muscles, minor wounds, or use in homemade salves.

4. Balsam Fir Salve (For Dry Skin & Pain Relief)

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup balsam fir-infused oil
  • 2 tbsp beeswax
  • 10 drops balsam fir essential oil (optional)

Instructions:

1. Melt beeswax and infused oil together over low heat.

2. Remove from heat and stir in essential oil.

3. Pour into tins or small jars and let cool.

Uses: Apply to sore muscles, chapped skin, or minor cuts.
